LAST SECOND HEROICS AND OFFENSIVE EXPLOSIONS: IFL WEEK SEVEN RECAP
Week Seven of the Indoor Football League delivered a slate defined by heart-stopping finishes and a series of high-scoring shootouts. From the desert battles to coastal showdowns, this week reinforced the competitive parity across the league.
Orlando Pirates (3-2) at Green Bay Blizzard (5-1)
Final: Green Bay 71, Orlando 68
In a massive 139-point spectacle , the Blizzard and Pirates gave the fans an early IFL National Championship preview. Green Bay utilized a high-efficiency passing game while Orlando relied on explosive plays to stay within striking distance.
Green Bay quarterback Liam Thompson showcased his versatility, throwing for 185 yards and six touchdowns while adding a score on the ground. He also found wide receiver Draysean Hudson for 69 yards and two scores.
The Blizzard have been on a heater, averaging 52 points per game in the month of April.
Defensively, Brian Lee Jr. was a standout for the Blizzard, leading the unit with 10 total tackles and a crucial sack.
For the Pirates, Paxton DeLaurent commanded the offense with 182 yards and four touchdowns. Running back Pooka Williams displayed immense versatility, racking up 169 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns. Orlando wide receiver Thomas Owens also made a significant impact with six catches for 82 yards and two scores.
Defender Khari Coleman flew all over the field, recording 10 tackles.
The game was decided by Andrew Mevis connecting on a 19-yard field goal in the final 30 seconds to push the Blizzard ahead for good.
Northern Arizona Wranglers (0-5) at San Antonio Gunslingers (1-3)
Final: San Antonio 32, Northern Arizona 14
The Gunslingers showcased a masterclass in defensive pressure. San Antonio used an early fumble recovery for a touchdown to set a physical tone that the Wranglers struggled to match throughout the evening.
San Antonio wide receiver Deon Cook emerged as a reliable target, hauling in five catches for 84 yards and two touchdowns.
The Wranglers only offensive production was running back Nolan Susel, who rushed for 34 yards and a score.
Defensively, Terry Beckner dominated the line of scrimmage for the Gunslingers, recording 1.5 sacks. Kieran Page led the Northern Arizona defensive effort with nine tackles and an interception.
Fishers Freight (5-1) at Iowa Barnstormers (0-5)
Final: Fishers 53, Iowa 31
The Freight continued their dominant run, using a balanced attack to overcome a gritty performance from Iowa. In their second matchup in the span of 3 weeks, Fishers' ability to score in all three phases of the game proved to be the difference-maker as they secured their fourth consecutive victory.
Fishers quarterback Felix Harper commanded the huddle with precision, throwing for 83 yards and four touchdowns while adding a score on the ground.
Running back Dominic Roberto was clinical in the red zone, 63 yards rushing and a touchdown on 11 carries, while wide receivers JT Stokes and Isaiah Coulter both reached the end zone twice.
Defensively, the Freight unit remained stout, with Marcus Gray leading the way with seven tackles. Fishers consistently forced difficult situations.
Iowa quarterback Ivan Corbin was a highlight reel, accounting for 95 rushing yards and all five of the Barnstormers' touchdowns on the ground across 17 carries.
Defensively, Trevon Pope led the effort with five tackles and Jon Adams Jr provided an interception to slow the Freights momentum.
Tulsa Oilers (1-3) at Arizona Rattlers (4-1)
Final: Arizona 64, Tulsa 63
The next dramatic finish of the weekend took place in the desert. In a game with zero turnovers and constant lead changes, Arizona used a last-second touchdown and a daring two-point conversion to steal a victory.
Arizona's wide receiver Arland Bruce was marvelous, recording 119 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winner with six seconds left. Rattlers quarterback Max Meylor lit up the stat sheet once again throwing for 215 yards and five touchdowns, further exemplifying his case as one of the most dynamic players in the league.
DJ Lundy led the Rattlers defense with six tackles and a sack.
Tulsa quarterback TJ Edwards put the team on his back, throwing for four touchdowns and rushing for two more. Tariq Bracy anchored the Oilers' secondary, finishing with seven total tackles.
New Mexico Chupacabras (1-4) at Vegas Knight Hawks (4-1)
Final: Vegas 48, New Mexico 12
Vegas flexed their championship aspirations with a dominant performance that shut down New Mexico's offense for the entire second half. The Knight Hawks' defensive front was relentless, recording four sacks and forcing four turnovers.
Wide receiver Quentin Randolph was critical for Vegas, scoring twice through the air and once on the ground. Josh Tomas was punishing in the ground game with 53 yards and two touchdowns on twelve carries.
The Knight Hawks' defense feasted against the Chupacabras. Ian McBorrough finished the game with 1.5 sacks and eight total tackles. Clifton Duck led the way with ten tackles and Terry Robert was an absolute ball hawk, snagging two interceptions.
For New Mexico, CJ Jefferson was the bright spot for the offense, hauling in seven catches for 91 yards and a score.
Gleson Sprewell was relentless on defense, racking up nine total tackles. Tykorian Brown brought the fight as well with an interception.
Jacksonville Sharks (3-1) at Quad City Steamwheelers (2-4)
Final: Jacksonville 39, Quad City 38
Sunday continued with a one-point thriller that saw the Sharks survive a late Quad City comeback. Jacksonville's early lead provided just enough cushion to withstand a five-touchdown passing performance from the Steamwheelers' Daquan Neal.
Jacksonville quarterback James Cahoon accounted for three total touchdowns to lead the way, supported by Isaiah Major, who recorded eight total tackles on defense.
Quad City wide receiver Keyvan Rudd was a threat on the outside all night, finishing with 84 yards and two touchdowns. Alex Herriott led a spirited Steamwheelers defensive effort with a game-high 12 total tackles.
The game swung on the leg of Marc Orozco, whose 23-yard field goal in the second quarter ultimately provided the winning margin.
Tucson Sugar Skulls (2-3) at San Diego Strike Force (4-1)
Final: San Diego 42, Tucson 25
San Diego closed out the week by leaning on their defense and veteran quarterback Nate Davis. While the game was tight through three quarters, the Strike Force exploded for 21 points in the final frame to pull away.
Sugar Skulls defensive back Zachariah Twardosky made a stellar play in the first quarter with a 47 yard scoop and score touchdown that got Tucson on the board early.
Dallas Daniels was the primary target for the San Diego offense, racking up 91 yards and a touchdown, while Adam Anderson haunted the backfield with six tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack.
Tucson's Jaivian Lofton showed off his speed with 22 rushing yards, and Kendricks Gladney led the Sugar Skulls' defensive unit with seven total tackles.
Momentum shifted permanently when Devin Hafford returned a missed field goal 50 yards for a touchdown to break the game open for San Diego.
Week Seven showcased the competitiveness of the IFL as the season gets further in stride. With another week of high-stakes drama in the books, the race for the playoffs continues to offer unpredictability every kickoff.
