Tucson at San Diego Game Preview

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Strike Force and Tucson Sugar Skulls will have a rematch in San Diego this week following their matchup in Tucson Week 11, in which the Sugar Skulls came out on top 54-34.

In their last game, Strike Force quarterback Jihad Vercher went 12-21 for 96 yards and one touchdown. He has completed 56.8 percent of his passes for 426 yards this season. Vercher also carried the ball 10 times for 42 yards.

San Diego running back George Moreira Jr. had 15 yards on four rushes and a touchdown. He leads the team in rushing with 68 carries for 195 yards. Strike Force wide receiver Marques Rodgers had three rushes for 10 yards and a touchdown.

Rodgers also caught four passes for 35 yards. He is averaging 60.9 receiving yards per game. Wide receiver Victor Dean Jr. caught two passes for 26 yards and a touchdown.

Strike Force defensive back Tyler Thornton had a 36-yard interception return for a touchdown in the game. Thornton currently leads the IFL in tackles per game (12).

Sugar Skulls quarterback Jake Medlock went 14-20 for 90 yards and four touchdowns. Backup quarterback Matt Behrendt went 8-12 for 60 yards and a touchdown.

Behrendt also led Tucson's rushing attack with 23 yards on five carries and a touchdown. He ranks second on the team in rushing with 44 carries for 220 yards. Medlock contributed two rushing touchdowns on four carries. Running back Shad Thornton had 20 rushing yards on four carries.

Tucson wide receiver Rico Brown had three touchdowns on six catches for 42 yards. Shad Thornton had five catches for 36 yards in the game. Wide receivers Shaq Curenton and Malique Belfort each had a receiving touchdown in the game. Curenton leads the team in receiving yards (47.6 ypg).

Thursday will be the fourth all-time meeting between the two teams, with Tucson having won the previous three matchups.

The game between the Strike Force and Sugar Skulls will be played on Thursday, May 9 at 7:05 p.m. PT at Pechanga Arena San Diego and will be streamed live on the IFL's YouTube page.
