Barnstormers Add Defensive Back

DES MOINES – The Iowa Barnstormers have signed defensive back Denzel Thompson to the 2018 roster, Head Coach Dixie Wooten announced today.

Thompson (6-4, 200, Southeastern Louisiana) joins the Iowa Barnstormers for his rookie season with the Indoor Football League (IFL). Collegiately, Thompson played four years at Southeastern Louisiana University beginning his collegiate career in 2011 as a redshirt freshman. In 2012, Thompson appeared in 10 games where he collected nine tackles, one interception, one forced fumble, and one sack. In 2013, Thompson appeared in all 14 games collecting 23 tackles, two interceptions, and eight pass-breakups. Thompson had a breakout season in 2014 collecting 43 total tackles, eight pass breakups, four interceptions, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery earning him Second Team All-Southland Conference honors. Thompson completed his time with the Lions in 2015 appearing in 10 games, collecting 42 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss.

"Denzel is a 6'4 corner with great coverage," said Wooten. "The physical nature he brings to the game is incredible. He is the type of player who is strong in man and tough to throw over in zone. He is an NFL talent and I want him to show it through hard work."
