The Indoor Football League (IFL) is proud to recognize member Des Moines, IA as the top minor league sports market in the country as selected by Street and Smith's Sports Business Journal.
Home of the Iowa Barnstormers, Des Moines, IA topped the Sports Business Journal's ranking in 2017. The Barnstormers ranked second in the IFL in attendance, averaging 7,030 fans per game this past season and have averaged over 7,100 fans a game for the past five seasons. The Barnstormers are joined in Des Moines by the Iowa Cubs (Pacific Coast League), Iowa Wolves (NBA G-League ), and the Iowa Wild (AHL).
Street and Smith conducted their rankings based on the three major categories: Tenure rank, Attendance Rank and Economic Rank. Tenure Rank measured the average of how long clubs have been in their markets. Attendance Rank is based on the total attendance of all of a market's teams and overall percentage of seats filled over the last five years. Economic rank measured the ratio between a city's unemployment, population and average personal income.
