Barnstormers Decimate Empire 58-28

Des Moines, IA – The Iowa Barnstormers (13-2) extended its winning streak to 11 games with a 58-28 win over the Spokane Empire (8-7) Friday night at the Wells Fargo Arena.

Iowa started the game scoring on its first possession when quarterback Travis Partridge connected with receiver Brady Roland for a 29 yard score, 7-0. On its next drive, Iowa threw an interception in the end zone stalling another scoring opportunity.

Entering the second quarter, Iowa started its first possession similar to the first quarter when Partridge found Roland for the second time in the half for a 45 yard strike, 14-0. The Spokane defense kept the Empire in the game when corner John Hardy-Tuliau picked off Partridge twice in the half. Spokane cut the Iowa lead when quarterback Aaron Wilmer found former Barnstormer receiver Bryan Pray for a six yard score, 14-7. With under a minute to play, Partridge called his own number and ran in a six yard score, 21-7. The Iowa defense created another scoring opportunity when corner Jamie Bender intercepted the Empire. Partridge capitalized and connected with receiver Ryan Balentine who made a one-handed catch for 16 yards, 28-7.

The Barnstormers started the second half giving up a rushing score to the Empire as running back Andrew Pierce scored a six yard score, 28-13. Iowa extended its lead when Partridge connected with Roland for the third time, 35-13. Spokane narrowed the margin knocking down a field goal late in the third quarter, 35-16. Entering the fourth quarter, Iowa opened its lead when Partridge ran in his second rushing score of the night, 42-16. Spokane used its rushing game to score a short touchdown, 42-22. Iowa used its own rushing attack when running back Keshaudas Spence ran in a four yard score, 49-22. Spokane would get another touchdown Pierce late in the fourth quarter, 49-28. Partridge found Balentine for the second time with a six yard touchdown reception, 56-28. Iowa recorded a safety under a minute left in the game, 58-28.
