Old Foes Continue Rivalry

Des Moines, IA – The Iowa Barnstormers (12-2) look for its 11th win in a row as they take on the Spokane Empire (8-6) on Friday, June 9, 2017. Kickoff is set for 7:05 p.m. CST at the Wells Fargo Arena.

Last week, the Barnstormers showed why they belong at the top of the division by defeating the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles 58-36 on the road last Friday night. The defense set the tone by forcing six turnovers with defensive back Jamie Bender intercepting four Screaming Eagle passes, which set the Barnstormer single game record. Linebacker Javicz Jones had a game-high 16 tackles, while defensive end Bryon Bennett had two sacks. Offensively, Iowa stuck to the ground as running back Keshaudas Spence tallied two touchdowns and rushed for 57 yards. Quarterback Travis Partridge scored three total touchdowns with two of those coming through the air to receiver Ryan Balentine. 

Last week, the Empire fell at home to the Arizona Rattlers 33-16 last Saturday. Quarterback Aaron Wilmer passed for 115 yards and one touchdown finding receiver Orlandus Harris Sr. Receiver Trevor Kennedy had a game-high 86 receiving yards and also scored one rushing touchdown. On the defensive side, defensive lineman Kaelin Burnett tallied a game-high 10 tackles, while defensive back John Hardy-Tuliau tallied eight tackles and one interception.

The Barnstormers will also be hosting their Annual 90's Night presented by Wildrose Casino and Resort. Fans are invited to celebrate a decade of music, dress in their favorite trends, and reminisce on Barnstormers history. The game will kick off with a National Anthem performance from Artist Joe Everson who will be painting as he sings. Halftime will include the Barnstormers Inaugural Corgi Chase in partnership with the Animal Rescue League.
