Rattlers Announce 2017 Coaching Staff

Phoenix, Ariz. – Today, the Arizona Rattlers announced the coaching staff for their inaugural season in the Indoor Football League (IFL).   Assistant Head Coach / Offensive Line Coach Kani Kauahi, Assistant General Manager / Defensive Line / Special Teams Coach Jeff Jarnigan, and Strength and Conditioning Coach Leland Rodgers will all return for another season with the Rattlers. 

Nick Davila will also join the Rattlers staff as he moves forward in this new career path.  He will take on the position of Quarterbacks / Wide Receivers coach.

"This coaching staff has always done a great job for this organization, and is a big part of why we are successful.  I am excited to keep the continuity as we move to the IFL," said General Manager and Head Coach Kevin Guy.  "At the same time I am very pleased with the new addition of Nick to the staff.  Over the years of coaching him, I have learned that he is driven and dedicated to being successful. I know that he will bring that same mindset as he begins his new career."

Kani Kauahi will enter his 11th season with the Rattlers and his third season as the Assistant Head Coach. Kauahi also played 11 years in the National Football League on the offensive lines of the Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers, Arizona Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs.

Prior to coaching the Rattlers, Kauahi spent the majority of his professional career working in the Canadian Football League, coaching the offensive lines of the BC Lions (1998-2000), Ottawa Renegades (2002-2005) and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2006).

Jeff Jarnigan begins his second season with the Rattlers as the Assistant General Manager and Special Teams Coach.  This will be his first season as the Defensive Line Coach for the team. Prior to joining the Rattlers, Jarnigan spent seven seasons with the San Jose SaberCats, coaching in numerous capacities, and has spent ten years in Arena football. Jarnigan also was the defensive coordinator for the AFL's Austin Wranglers in 2004.

Aside from his AFL experience, Jarnigan also was the head coach for the AF2's Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz from 2005-2006.  In 2000, Jarnigan became the head coach for the Minnesota Rage of the Indoor Football League.

Leland Rodgers enters his fourth season as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Arizona Rattlers. Prior to joining the Rattlers organization Rodgers started his coaching career working under Coach Howard Schnellenberger after playing for Florida Atlantic University. Coach Rodgers has been a Director of Strength and Conditioning for two different high schools in the East Valley and has worked multiple camps for the Oakland Raiders as well as the Cleveland Browns.

Rodgers is a former Head Football Coach at the 6A level in Arizona as well as a defensive coordinator at two other 6A programs.

Nick Davila is entering his first season with the Arizona Rattlers as a coach.

Prior to taking over the responsibility of the Quarterbacks / Wide Receivers coach, he was the three-time Arena Football League MVP quarterback that helped lead the Rattlers to three straight ArenaBowl Championships (2012-14).  He played for the Rattlers for seven seasons, and holds the Rattlers single season record in every major passing category (Yards, Completions, Attempts, and Touchdowns).
