Week 18 Players of the Week Announced

The Indoor Football League (IFL) is proud to announce the Vidswap.com Players of the Week for Week 18 of the 2016 IFL season. 

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cory Murphy (QB, Billings Wolves)

The Billings Wolves earned a 67-23 victory over the Tri-Cities Fever in Week 18 and continue their track into the IFL playoffs. The Wolves explosive offensive output was led by QB Cory Murphy who put on an end-zone spectacle against the Fever. Murphy (6'1,210, Delaware State) accounted for nine total touchdowns in the Wolves' 44-point victory as he rushed for six touchdowns and threw for three more. Murphy's six rushing touchdowns in a single game tied him for second in IFL history. The Wolves QB finished his night rushing 13 times for 67 yards and six touchdowns. He also completed 14 of 23 passes for 224 yards and three touchdowns. The Wolves will look to end their regular season with back-to-back wins when they face off against the Spokane Empire in the final week of the regular season.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Elijah Fields (DB, Sioux Falls Storm)

In a heavyweight battle of number one playoff seeds, the Sioux Falls Storm prevailed with a 59-35 victory over the Spokane Empire. The Storm defense shut down one of the top ranked offenses in the league, holding the Empire to their third-lowest output of the season. Veteran DB Elijah Fields and the Storm secondary caused havoc all-night long for Empire QB Charles Dowdell, forcing a season-high four interceptions. Late in the fourth quarter, Fields (6'2, 215, Pittsburgh) ended any chance for an Empire comeback as he intercepted Dowdell's pass and returned it 41 yards for a touchdown. Fields' interception gave the Storm a 24-point lead , which proved to be the final margin of victory. The veteran DB for the Storm finished his night with six tackles, one tackle for loss, one interception and one interception return for a touchdown. With the victory against the Empire, the Storm finished their 2016 regular season campaign and now prepare to host the Conference Championship round of the IFL playoffs.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Rockne Belmonte (K, Wichita Falls Nighthawks)

The Wichita Falls Nighthawks rebounded from a close loss from the Crush in Week 17 with a resounding 73-54 victory over the Iowa Barnstormers in Week 18. Nighthawks Kicker and 2014 IFL Special Teams Player of the Year, Rockne Belmonte was almost perfect in Wichita Falls' victory. Belmonte (6'0, 225, Northern Michigan) converted a perfect 100 percent of his extra points (6/6) and converted three of four field goals. Belmonte scored 15 points in the Nighthawks victory and now leads all kickers in the IFL with 163 points on the season. His 163 points also ranks him fourth among all IFL players in points scored this season. The Nighthawks can clinch the #2 seed in the United Conference playoffs and host the team's first home playoff game with a victory over the Green Bay Blizzard and a Cedar Rapids Titans loss to the Iowa Barnstormers in Week 19.
