Former Blizzard Player Signs with the NFL
Green Bay, WI. – The Grejunior aumavaeen Bay Blizzard are proud to announce that 2012 Defensive Lineman Junior Aumavae has signed with the NFL’s New York Jets.

Aumavae (6’2,330) has received numerous NFL tryouts since the end of the 2012 Blizzard season including a tryout with the Green Bay Packers. Aumavae was a disruptive force on the Blizzard’s defensive line last season as he accumulated 38 tackles, 2.5 sacks and two pass breakups.

“We are very excited to see Junior make it back into the NFL. He has made many sacrifices and worked so hard to put himself in the position he is in today,” said Head Coach Robert Fuller. “This is a proud moment for the Aumavae and Blizzard families. This is what it should be all about.”

Aumavae becomes the second Blizzard player to sign with in an NFL team since 2010, when LB Maurice Simpkins signed with the Green Bay Packers. Aumavae is also the sixth Blizzard player to receive an NFL tryout since the end of the 2012 season.

Blizzard Sign Three IFL Veterans

The Blizzard have also signed three IFL veterans in DE K.J McCrae, LB Wendell Brown, DB George Ortiz Jr in preparation for Saturday’s game vs. the Chicago Slaughter.

McCrae (6’2,260) joins the Blizzard after playing collegiately at Portland State University. During his senior season at Portland State McCrae totaled 75 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble. He finished his career as a two-time All-Big Sky Conference Honorable Mention with 108.5 tackles (73 solo), 24.5 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and an interception. McCrae also spent time with the IFL’s Kent Predators in 2010.

Brown (6’0, 228) played with the IFL’s Bloomington Edge last season. Brown finished the season for the Edge with 68 tackles (33 solo), one sack, two interceptions and two pass breakups. Brown was named the IFL’s Week 5 Defensive Player of the Week last season. Brown attended Ball State University where he was a three year starter.

The final IFL veteran the Blizzard have added is DB George Ortiz Jr. Ortiz (5’11,185) played for the Reading Express last season. Ortiz played in 11 games for the Express accounting for 40 tackles (32 solo) and finished second on the team with eight pass breakups.  Ortiz graduated from Idaho State University after transferring from Feather River Junior College.
